Steven Seagal Awarded Medal by Russian President Putin for Supporting Him Amid Ukraine Invasion
Steven Seagal, well-known for his roles in movies like “Under Siege”, “Above the Law” and “Hard to Kill” has been awarded the Order of Friendship medal by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The actor’s support for Putin even amid the invasion of Ukraine has been the reason for the award. Seagal has been accused of supporting Putin’s regime, which stands at odds with the US and other Western powers.
During the event held by the International Movement of Russians in Moscow, Seagal accused the United States government of spending “billions of dollars on disinformation, lies” in the media to “try to discredit, demoralize, and destroy the emerging morale of Russia.” He added that “over half of the people in America actually love Russia and love Russians and know that they’re being lied to.”
In 2018, Seagal was named the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special representative for Russian-American humanitarian relations. The Order of Friendship medal awarded this year was to celebrate Seagal’s “great contribution to the development of international cultural and humanitarian cooperation.” Putin said that Seagal was “one of the greatest world leaders and one of the greatest presidents in the world.”
Seagal recorded a birthday message for Putin in 2020, saying, “I just think that we are now living in very, very trying times. He is one of the greatest world leaders and one the greatest presidents in the world. And I am really hoping and praying that he gets the support and the love and the respect that he needs. And that all the tribulations that are going on now will be over soon, and we will be living in a world of peace.”
It should be noted that Seagal was previously banned from Ukraine and deemed a threat to national security. The actor, however, maintains his love for Russia and its culture.
While Seagal’s opinion on the situation between Russia and other countries may be controversial, it is important to remember that everyone has the right to their own beliefs and opinions. It is crucial to engage in open-minded discussions and remain informed about global politics.
