Double amputee Sydney Benes, who had her wheelchair pushed down a flight of stairs at a pub in Erie, Pennsylvania, by Carson Brière, son of an NHL team exec and ex-player, has declined to accept the $9k raised for her on GoFundMe. The bar’s security manager, Nathaniel Sanders, who carried Benes to the first floor of the establishment so that she could use the bathroom, organised the campaign. Brière’s university, Mercyhurst, where he is a standout center, has suspended him and two other unnamed student athletes while it investigates the incident. NBC News reports that Benes filed a police report about the incident this week.
