Actress Mayim Bialik Honors Leonard Nimoy on his 92nd Birthday with a Special Pendant
Mayim Bialik, the host of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and former star of “The Big Bang Theory,” paid tribute to Leonard Nimoy on what would have been his 92nd birthday. Nimoy, who played Commander Spock on “Star Trek,” passed away in 2015, but his legacy lives on through Bialik’s heartfelt gesture.
Bialik took to Instagram on Sunday to share a photo of herself wearing a “Live Long and Prosper” pendant necklace given to her by Nimoy’s family. The silver pendant depicts a hand in the shape of the classic Vulcan salute that was made famous by Nimoy’s character on the iconic sci-fi series.
“In honor of Leonard Nimoy’s 92nd birthday today, I’m proud to be wearing the LLAP Pendant which was given to me by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie Nimoy and David Knight,” Bialik wrote in her post. “The pendant is very special to his family not only because the LLAP symbol was so loved by Leonard but it’s the same pendant that was on-board Blue Origin’s space flight last year commemorating his legacy and his lasting wish for peace, tolerance and unity in the future! Happy Birthday Leonard!”
Bialik shared a “Certificate of Flight” in the second slide, which confirmed that the necklace made it to space as part of Blue Origin’s space tourism mission in December 2021. Nimoy’s enduring legacy is a testament to his profound impact on popular culture, and his ideals of peace, tolerance, and unity remain relevant even today.
While Nimoy passed away six years ago, another “Star Trek” star, William Shatner, was also involved in Blue Origin’s latest commercial spaceflight. Shatner traveled into low orbit as part of the four-person NS-18 crew that blasted off in October of 2021. His journey was documented in the Amazon Prime Video documentary, “Shatner in Space,” which chronicled his experience as the oldest person in space.
Bialik’s heartfelt tribute to Leonard Nimoy touched the hearts of her fans on Instagram, many of whom also share her passion for “Star Trek” and “The Big Bang Theory.” Nimoy was a recurring reference on the CBS sitcom, and he even made a voice cameo in Season 5. Bialik’s necklace is a beautiful reminder of Nimoy’s enduring impact on science fiction and pop culture, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of fans today.
