Drew Barrymore Responds Sweetly to Hugh Grant’s Criticism of Her Singing Voice
Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant first worked together in the 2007 romantic comedy movie “Music and Lyrics.” The two played songwriters trying to create a hit for a pop sensation in the movie. The movie’s soundtrack included the catchy song “Way Back Into Love,” which was performed by the two actors.
Recently, during an interview with Wired, Grant was asked if he did his own singing in the movie. He admitted that he was, but he was also auto-tuned. When the interviewer asked him about Barrymore’s singing, Grant had some rather harsh words. He called her voice “just horrendous.” He even went as far as saying, “I’ve heard dogs bark better than she sings.”
However, Barrymore had a surprisingly sweet response to Grant’s criticism of her singing voice. During an appearance on her own talk show, “The Drew Barrymore Show,” she shared a video of herself singing the famous song “Way Back Into Love” while using a hairbrush as her microphone. She even missed a few notes but didn’t let it get in the way of her performance.
Between giggles, Barrymore addressed Grant, calling him by his character’s name from the movie, “Oh, Hugh… bert. Hubert. That’s for youuuuuu.” She then went on to say that Grant’s comments about her singing voice didn’t hurt her feelings at all. She even joked that Grant should have just asked her to sing the song herself during their time on set.
The two co-stars have remained friends since the movie’s release, and Grant even appeared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” last year. During the interview, he revealed that their friendship started during the tough times he faced in the aftermath of his infamous “Divine Brown scandal.”
Barrymore’s sweet response to Grant’s criticism of her singing voice just goes to show how strong their friendship is. It also shows that sometimes, even when someone says something negative about you, the best response is to just brush it off and sing your heart out anyway.
